The foundation of today's web technologies was laid in 1989 at CERN research center, where Tim-Berners Lee and Robert Cailliau developed the HTTP network protocol and the HTML text markup language. At that time, only the display of passive websites was possible, which is nowadays inconceivable. Over time, JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) added dynamism and interaction to these technologies and they have become the standard for data display and visualization on the web that we all know today.
